When Joni Bakaradze died at age 22 in the Eurasian country of Georgia, his family – instead of burying him, decided to preserve his body as a mummy for the last 18 years.
A little weird, but there’s no way of describing how hard it must feel for a mother to bury her child. Joni’s mother, Tsiuri, kept her son’s body in a coffin with a viewing window, and said that the family used traditional methods like balsam sap to preserve the body. But recently, she claimed to opt for spirits (as in alcohol, nothing paranormal).
“I had a dream once. Somebody was telling me to wake up and start using vodka to care for the body. I have been using… spirit liquid poultices since then. You must not leave the body without them during [the] night, because it will turn black.” However odd this method of “keeping family close” may be, Tsiuri is a dedicated mother.
“I had been changing clothes for the body on his birthdays during the first ten years. I used his clothes, changing coats and other garments”. When asked why she did not bury her son, Tsiuri says that she wants Joni’s son to have the chance to know and “love” his father as he gets older. Watch the video here:
