Carmen Miracle, the author's third and last wife, told the daily La Jornada that Mutis died after a long illness that saw him hospitalized.

Program pencarian bakat The Voice telah mengatasi The Amazing Race apabila menggondol Program Realiti Terbaik.

HONG KONG'S three biggest fast-food chains have rejected a call by Hong Kong's chief imam to offer halal meat in their restaurants.
Mufti Muhammad Arshad contacted McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Pizza Hut to request that they use halal meat in some of their outlets. He said it would not only be good for Hong Kong's Muslims, but also a shrewd business move. Halal is an Arabic word that means "permissible". Halal meat comes from an animal slaughtered according to Islamic law.
That means Allah's (God's) name must be pronounced during slaughter, the instrument used must be very sharp to ensure humane slaughter (the animal must be slit at the throat), the animal must not be unconscious, and it must be hung upside down and allowed to bleed dry. Eating blood is not halal. Pork is not halal, nor are certain cuts of meat, such as from an animal's hindquarters.
Arshad said he sent letters to the fast-food chains, but McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut all said that they had no plans to introduce halal meat in their outlets. But Arshad said it would be only a matter of time before they signed up, as McDonald's and KFC served halal food in other Asian markets, such as Singapore. Halal certification of restaurants began in Singapore in the mid-1990s.
Singaporean food blogger Daniel Ang says that the likes of Le Steak, a new halal steakhouse in the Jalan Kayu district, has been "packing the crowds in" at the weekends. In Hong Kong there are already halal outlets at Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park.
"It's disappointing that we could not convince the companies," Arshad said. "It doesn't have to be Hong Kong-wide. In the main areas, like Central, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui, the New Territories and at the airport, it would be a great service. The companies have to realize there is a need for this and that it is good business for them."
Tourism sector lawmaker Paul Tse Wai-chun said he would welcome anything that would increase the diversity of Hong Kong and cater for people from different religious backgrounds. He said it would also be good for local businesses. "The government has been trying to promote Islamic investment here, so the move would be beneficial to tourism in Hong Kong and our financial market," Tse said.
"It's also a chance to attract tourists from Muslim countries to Hong Kong. We're showing that we are catering for them." There are about 250,000 Muslims in Hong Kong, more than half of whom are Chinese. The rest are either locally born non-Chinese or are from Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Middle Eastern and African countries. In recent years, the biggest segment of Muslims in the territory have been Indonesians.
Mostly female domestic workers, they account for almost half of Hong Kong's Muslim population - 120,000 people. Arshad said that more than 50 restaurants served halal meat in Hong Kong. The meat is checked as being halal-certified in the country from which it is imported by Arshad and his staff.
"We double-check that a certified Muslim organization has imported the meat and that the animal has been slaughtered according to Islamic rites," he said. "If we are satisfied that everything is in order, then we will issue a local halal certificate to let restaurants know that everything is fine."

AT LEAST 20 people have died after Typhoon Usagi slammed into southern China, state-run broadcaster CCTV reported Monday.
Usagi has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people, the cancellation of hundreds of flights and the closing of a major shipping lane, according to state media. At one point the most powerful storm so far this year, Usagi has menaced the region for days as a super typhoon, leaving at least two people dead and a dozen injured in the Phillipines and Taiwan before making landfall in the Chinese province of Guangdong, northeast of Hong Kong.
In preparation for the storm's arrival, four of six reactors at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station in Shenzhen reduced their operating capacity, Guangdong authorities told the state-run Xinhua news agency. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from along the coast in Guangdong province as forecasters warned that heavy rains along with a storm surge would cause flooding, Xinhua reported, citing government officials.
In neighboring Fujian Province, more than 80,000 people were evacuated and 50,000 disaster-relief personnel were deployed, Xinhua reported. The storm also wreaked havoc on transportation, forcing the cancellation of more than 300 flights at Hong Kong International Airport, according to airport officials. Major Chinese airlines, including China Southern Air, canceled flights into the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian as well as Hong Kong and Macau, Xinhua reported.
A major shipping lane between Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Taiwan was closed Saturday in anticipation of the storm's arrival. More than 22,000 fishing boats in Fujian and another 20,000 in Guangdong have been ordered into port, Zhang Dong, chief weather forecaster of Guangdong provincial meteorological center, told Xinhua. East Asia is buffeted for several months a year by heavy storms that roll in from the Pacific.
Usagi has eclipsed Super Typhoon Utor, which hit the Philippines and South China last month, as the strongest storm of the year so far. About 50 people died as result of Utor in China, and 11 people were killed in the Philippines.

PESHAWAR: twin-suicide bombing outside a church in Peshawar in Pakistan has killed at least 75 people, in one of the worst attacks on Christians in the country. Two bombers blew themselves up as worshippers were coming out of the city's historic
All Saints church after attending Sunday Mass, police say. Relatives of the victims gathered at the scene to protest against the government's failure to protect them. Militants linked to Pakistani Taliban have said they carried out the bombing. The group, Jandullah, said it was in retaliation US drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal northwest. Sunday's twin attacks targeted Peshawar's historic All Saints Church as hundreds of worshippers were attending Mass.
Witnesses said they heard two blasts, the second more powerful than the first. Suicide vests were later found outside the church, officials say. More than 120 people were wounded in the bombings. It is the latest in a series of attacks on Pakistani Christians, who represent about 1.6% of the country's largely Muslim population.
The BBC's Shahzeb Jillani in Pakistan says the attack has outraged many people, but there is also a sense of helplessness about the government's apparent inability to prevent such atrocities. There were angry scenes outside the church, with friends and relatives denouncing the government.
Demonstrations were held in other cities too. In Karachi, police fired bullets in air and tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters.

NAIROBI: Most of the people caught up in an attack on a shopping centre in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, have been rescued, defence officials have told the BBC. Col Cyrus Oguna said only a small number remained under the control of the militants, who are thought to be from Somalia's al-Shabab movement.
Some of those rescued are dehydrated, said Col Oguna. At least 68 people have been killed. Col Oguna expressed hope that the operation would end very soon. He said that a large part of the building was now under the control of the security forces. In total about 175 people have been injured, including four soldiers who were taken to hospital.
There are reports that the gunmen are currently holed up in a supermarket. Civilians in the complex are thought either to be held as hostages or in hiding. As troops continue to clear the building it was possible they would come across more bodies, the said Col Aguna. A heavy military presence remains both in and around the shopping centre.
Late on Sunday afternoon, a police helicopter and another with military camouflage swept low over the shopping centre. Correspondents says the full extent of the attack will not be known until the military is back in control. The BBC's Gabriel Gatehouse, outside the centre, says he cannot see or hear anything that suggests a "final push" by security forces who surround the complex is going on.
Our correspondent says that there is calm at the moment alongside a feeling that the crisis cannot last much longer. People continued to escape from the building on Sunday.
'Appalling brutality' In a news conference on Sunday Mr Kenyatta said the country was united and strong in adversity. "The criminals are now located in one place within the building," he said.
"With the professionals on site, we have as good a chance to neutralise the terrorists as we could hope for," he said. He thanked those who had helped with rescue and relief efforts, and asked other countries not to issue travel advisories against visiting Kenya. BBCMr Kenyatta said his nephew and the man's fiancee were among the dead.
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed that three Britons have been killed, and says the number is likely to rise. British Prime Minister David Cameron called it "an absolutely sickening and despicable attack of appalling brutality".
US President Barack Obama called President Kenyatta on Sunday to express condolences and reiterate "US support for Kenya's efforts to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice". The wife of an American working for the US Agency for International Development was killed, US officials said.
Prominent Ghanaian poet Kofi Awoonor - who was attending a literary festival in Nairobi - also died, as did a Chinese woman. French, Dutch, South African, Indian and Canadian nationals are also among the foreigners confirmed killed, along with a dual Australian-British national. Thousands of Kenyans have responded to appeals for blood donations.
'Non-Muslims targeted' BBCAl-Shabab says it carried out the attack in response to Kenyan military operations in Somalia. The group, which is part of the al-Qaeda network, has repeatedly threatened attacks on Kenyan soil if Nairobi did not pull its troops out of Somalia.
There are about 4,000 Kenyan troops in the south of Somalia, where they have been fighting the militants since 2011. The attack began at about 12:00 local time (09:00 GMT) on Saturday, when the militants entered the Westgate centre, throwing grenades and firing automatic weapons.
A children's day was being held at the time - children are among those reported killed. Witnesses report seeing many bodies strewn round tables of unfinished fast food - with pop music left playing in the background. Women were reported to be among the attackers but this was unconfirmed, he said. BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says a security source told him that at least one of the attackers was a woman who appeared to have a leadership role.
Some witnesses said the militants told Muslims to leave and said non-Muslims would be targeted. Security experts are reported to have warned that the Israeli-owned complex was in danger of being subjected to a terror attack. This is one of the worst incidents in Kenya since the attack on the US embassy in August 1998.

NAIROBI: Gunfire erupted on Sunday at an upmarket shopping mall in Kenya's capital Nairobi, where at least 59 people were killed and several more held hostage by gunmen from a Somali Islamist group that has declared allegiance to al Qaeda.
The shooting, lasting about 30 seconds, came after a period of tense quiet in the standoff, a Reuters witness said, speaking from close to the shopping centre that has several Israeli-owned outlets and which is frequented by Westerners and Kenyans.
Foreigners, including a Canadian diplomat, were killed in Saturday's attack at Westgate mall, claimed by the Islamist group al Shabaab. Shortly after the shots were fired, troops in camouflage ran crouching below a restaurant terrace along the front of the building that had been buzzing with customers when assailants charged in.
One witness said they first told Muslims to leave. For hours after the brazen attack, the dead were strewn around tables of unfinished meals. At one food outlet, a man and woman lay in a final embrace after they had been killed, before their bodies were later removed. In the darkness of Sunday morning, music still played. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, facing his first major security challenge since his election in March, said his close family members were among the dead.
The assault was the biggest single attack in Kenya since al Qaeda's East Africa cell bombed the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi in 1998, killing more than 200 people. In 2002, the same militant cell attacked an Israeli-owned hotel on the coast and tried to shoot down an Israeli jet in a coordinated attack.
Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku told reporters the death toll had risen to 59, and that security forces were doing everything they could to rescue hostages still inside the mall. He added that 175 people had been taken to hospital after an assault that could prove a costly setback for east Africa's biggest economy, which relies heavily on tourism revenues.
The dead included children, and the wounded ranged in age from 2 to 78. Many victims were at a cooking competition when assailants opened fire on them, witnesses said. The focus of attention on Sunday was on Nakumatt supermarket, one of Kenya's biggest chains.
Dazed
Soldiers joined the security operation backed by armored personnel carriers in the hours after the attack that was launched around 12.30 p.m. (0930 GMT) on Saturday. Security forces have been combing through the mall, clearing the floors. As helicopters hovered over the capital, a paramilitary officer at the scene, a rifle slung over his shoulder, said:
"They will be arranging how to attack (the assailants)." One woman emerged on Sunday morning after she had been hiding under a car in the basement. She was holding one shoe and looked dazed, and was making a frantic phone call to her husband who later met her. France said two of its citizens were killed, and Canada said two Canadians died, including a 29-year-old diplomat.
A Chinese woman was also killed, China's official news agency said. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who offered assistance to Kenya in the incident, said several U.S. citizens had been hurt and the wife of a U.S. diplomat working for the U.S. Agency for International Development was killed. Al Shabaab, which is battling Kenyan and other African peacekeepers in Somalia, had repeatedly threatened attacks in Kenya if Nairobi did not pull its troops out of their country
. The group appeared to taunt the security forces, saying on its official Twitter handle @HSM_Press that there would be no negotiations whatsoever with Kenyan officials over the standoff. "10 hours have passed and the Mujahideen are still strong inside #Westgate Mall and still holding their ground. All praise is due to Allah!", the group said late on Saturday, although its account on Twitter was suspended on Sunday morning.
Vigil
Kenyatta, who faces charges of crimes against humanity at a trial starting in November at the International Criminal Court, vowed to defeat the militants who have said it is time to shift the war to Kenyan soil. "We have overcome terrorist attacks before," he said
. Relatives of hostages still trapped in the mall kept vigil overnight at a nearby religious community centre. "I want her to come out alive," said Kevin Jamal, as he joined Kenya Red Cross Society volunteers and waited for news about his sister who he said was being held inside. He said security forces could have done better. "They should not allow themselves to be outmaneuvered by less than 20 people," he said.
A private security firm would normally search patrons of the mall using metal detectors and open the trunks of cars entering parking areas, but the guards would be unarmed. Nakumatt closed its other stores on Sunday, local media reported, while the mall was cordoned off and surrounded by police and paramilitary forces.
Ole Lenku said the government believed that there were 10-15 attackers who security forces had been able to "isolate", but no communication had yet been established with them. Those rescued said at least one of the assailants was a woman. One militant was shot and arrested in clashes following the initial siege, but died shortly afterwards at a hospital.
Witnesses said the attackers were armed with AK-47 rifles and wore ammunition belts. Police said they stormed in during a children's cooking competition hosted by a radio station at the mall, just as the winners were about to receive prizes. Kenya sent its troops into Somalia in October 2011 to pursue militants it blamed for kidnapping tourists and attacking its security forces.
Al Shabaab's last big attack outside Somalia was a twin strike in neighboring Uganda, targeting people watching the World Cup final on television in Kampala in June, 2010. Seventy-nine people died.
