PETALING JAYA: MyWatch chairman R. Sri Sanjeevan, who was shot on July 27, appears to have lost his memory now that he has finally regained full consciousness.
His father P. Ramakrishnan said that although Sanjeevan was finally able to communicate, he had no memory of the attempt on his life nor could he recognise himself or his loved ones.
“He was in a coma for 10 days so that was the cause of his amnesia. There are so many things he can’t remember.
We (his parents) are reminding him slowly – one by one – trying to help him understand. “He asked me who he was and why he was there. I said to him:
‘You are Sanjeevan. You are my son. You had an accident.’ “This is a big disaster to the family after all the stress we have gone through,” Ramakrishnan said yesterday.
However, despite his son’s memory loss, Ramakrishnan was upbeat, saying that Sanjeevan was getting stronger.
“He can sit in the chair now and eat the porridge that his mother feeds him. And he can even speak now. My boy has improved a lot.
We will slowly help him recover to his full self. I hope he will,” he said. It was earlier reported that doctors had warned Ramakrishnan that his son had suffered some trauma that might cause him not to remember certain things.
Sanjeevan was shot by a motorcycle pillion rider in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, on July 27. Doctors successfully extracted the bullet after 18 days.
He had earlier developed a critical blood clot in his heart and lungs. Meanwhile, MyWatch co-founder S. Gobi Krishnan said the group would continue its work despite the chairman’s condition.
“Nevertheless, I am still concerned and saddened. We will continue MyWatch’s work as we have the resources and members to do so,” he said.
