Woman Shot At In Carjacking Bid In Kuantan
A 35-year-old woman escaped with slight injury after she was shot at by an unknown man in a carjacking attempt in Jalan Haji Ahmad here, early Tuesday. OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said Ruzelawati Basri was injured in the right eye by glass fragments and was treated at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. In the 4am incident, Ruzelawati was driving a Toyota Alphard alone from her Taman Mirama house and had stopped for fuel at a petrol kiosk. “After refuelling, she stopped the vehicle in front of a restaurant in Jalan Haji Ahmad to phone her ex-husband in Putrajaya when she was approached by a man who had arrived in a dark blue car. “Ruzelawati said the man, who was holding a pistol, knocked on the car and ordered her to open the door and get out of the MPV. Shocked, she sped off and later heard the sound of breaking glass,” he told reporters here. Mohd Jasmani said after a short distance, Ruzelawati stopped the MPV near a restaurant in Jalan Haji Ahmad. “Initial police investigation found that a shot hit the left front door of the MPV. The motive is believed to be attempted carjacking,” he added. Ruzelawati runs an an optometry shop here.
