ALOR SETAR: Having proved her nerves of steel in crushing opponents in squash, world number one Datuk Nicol Ann David yesterday demonstrated her ability in conquering her fear of heights when she boarded a Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF) training aircraft.
Acknowledging that she was nervous before boarding the Pilatus PC7 MK II, the 30-year-old national squash queen was elated to complete the 30 minute ride piloted by Major Khairol Muzambi Salehin. Nicol said the experience helped take her confidence level to new heights. "This is one experience which is very different.
I was very nervous but being nervous in the squash court is totally different from what I experienced before the flight. "This is a different type of challenge and it indirectly helped increase confidence in myself," she said. Sporting a full pilot's suit, Nicol said she fancied getting her own "wings" and given a chance, she looked forward to enroll in a flying academy in the future.
The Penang born athlete, who was appointed an Honorary Major in the RMAF Volunteer Reserve last September, said she felt honoured to be given a chance to fly in the aircraft and described it as "once in a lifetime" experience.
"Today's trip allowed me to better understand the RMAF's duties," said Nicol on her official visit to the Air Force College (KTU) in Kepala Batas here yesterday.
